Native gardening for your second home

Incorporating native plants into the landscape of your second home makes a lot of sense. By using native species, you cut down on the amount of maintenance necessary to keep your landscape looking great. You’re also more apt to attract local wildlife.

eNature, a site from the National Wildlife Federation, offers a great tool for finding out what plants, including shrubs, wildflowers, grasses, trees, and aquatic plants, are suitable for your area. By specifying your state, and the type of plant your looking for (there are a number of different choices) you get a customized list based on your climate. If you sign up for a free account, you can even save items you find that you like to a customized list (and you can set up multiple lists, so you could use one for the front yard and one for the back yard, or one for your second home and one for your primary residence, etc.)
