Despite a slowing in the rate of price increases of oceanfront vacation homes in the U.S., more Americans each year are turning north and east to the Canadian Maritimes seeking the perfect vacation retreat.
If you are driving to many points in the Maritimes from major east coast cities, depending on your start and end points, you are in for a long drive. This has not deterred intrepid individuals and families from making the trek. Why?-because there is a whole lot of beauty, tranquility and friendliness waiting at the other end. But the clincher, for many who have sought and found their dream spots on the water in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick or Nova Scotia is the price. It’s simply no contest between the price/value equation of property and vacation homes on the east coast of the U.S. versus any of the Maritime provinces. While some areas are more desirable and pricey than others in eastern Canada, the price differences between comparable properties in the U.S. and Canada are striking. This holds true despite the recent fall in the value of the U.S. dollar to the Canadian dollar (for the first time in 30 years, the Canadian dollar is trading higher then the U.S. dollar).

As we wind down from our peak vacation season and look toward closing down our seasonal homes for the winter, there’s still time to enjoy our ‘summer places’ with an autumn-themed meal or two.

Hit the farm stand, invite the neighbors over and toast the season and toast to next summer as well with a sweet glass of cider. Bon Appetit…or more appropriately, tadakimasu (Japanese), or mànmàn chī! (Chinese).

Phuket, Thailand is first on the list with Shangri-La’s Phuket Resort and Spa. In addition to a 315-room resort hotel, there will be 50 full-owernship villas available along the Bang Tao Bay beach.
Others on the list include Luxuria in Boca Raton, Florida, which has 26 whole-ownership condominiums available in a 10-story oceanfront tower; Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana, the first invitation-only ski-and-golf community, sits on 14,000 acres and offers two- and five-bedroom condos, single family homes, and home lots; the Chileno Bay Club in Cabo San Lucas, a family focused full-ownership private community with 51 villas on 1260 acres; and Spruce Peak at Stowe in Stowe, Vermont, which offers 38 full-ownership cabins, 244 full-ownership condos and 34 fractional units on 35 acres and offers automatic membership to the Stowe Mountain Club.
